Trinity Cathedral - Gov. Wade Hampton's Grave

From Patsy Nabors - used with her kind permission.

I'm not sure if you know this or not, but the head of Gov. Wade Hampton's grave once had a bronze sign that said that this area was the exact center of South Carolina. When Gov. Hampton gave his inaugural speech, it is said that he stood on the Capital grounds and looked over at the Episcopal Church and said something to the effect that if he couldn't serve South Carolina in the style as he should, then he longed to be over there, and he pointed to the cemetery, with his beloved wife.
